Red SquareIn fact, the square's name derives from the word 'krasnyi', which once meant 'beautiful'. The striking charm of architecture is at odds with the square's brutal and bloody history, but the combination makes Moscow's Red Square a truly fascinating place that you will want to visit again and again.
The Moscow KremlinThe Moscow Kremlin is the oldest part of the city that includes five palaces, four cathedrals, and the enclosing Kremlin Wall with towers. The name "Kremlin" means "fortress inside a city". Moscow's fortified complex is located at the heart of the Russian capital. The Kremlin serves as the official residence of the President of the Russian Federation and is linked to all the most important historical and political events in Russia since the 13th century.
The Armoury ChamberThe Armoury Chamber is a unique museum displaying the treasures accumulated by the Russian rulers between the 12th century and the October Revolution of 1917. The museum houses various historical pieces of Russia's imperial past including golden carriages, armor, Tzar crowns, Patriarch clothes, Fabergé eggs and jewelry.
The GULAG History State MuseumIt's estimated that 20 million people were persecuted in Soviet labor camps in 1930-1950 - in the so-called GULAG system. At the highest point of the terror, in the 1930s, victims accused of plotting against the Soviet power were executed en masse. Visit this unique museum to learn about life in Stalin's labor camps and read about the experiences and suffering of individual prisoners. Touch the cell doors and immerse yourself in the brutal Soviet terror.
The Memorial Museum of CosmonauticsThe museum contains over 85,000 Soviet and Russian space-related exhibits and models which explore the history of space exploration, astronomy, space technology, and the space theme in the arts. The hi-tech materials and technology used to construct spacecrafts are extraordinary at a close-up look. Enriched by cosmos-themed artworks, the exhibition is a compelling reminder of the times when space exploration was viewed as mankind's greatest adventure.
