Vodka Tasting

Vodka is a heady drink which is considered traditional on a par with Matreshka and bear living on the street of Russian Towns.
The word «vodka» has been known since the 17th century and is most likely a derivative of «voda» (water). Throughout Russian history, the manner of vodka production and sales has changed many times.
The invention of vodka is connected with the name of the famous chemist D. I. Mendeleev. The scientist had been searching for the ideal volume and weight ratio of alcohol and water for a year and a half and after having solved the problem published his findings in his doctorate dissertation «On Combining Alcohol and Water». Mendeleev's conclusions were appreciated and successfully applied in alcoholometry and vodka production. In 1894-1896 the national standard for vodka was established and the state monopoly on vodka that gradually spread all over the country was introduced.
Tour includes:
- excursions around museums telling about history of vodka
- degustation of different kinds of vodka with traditional russian snacks
We are suggesting to complete your visit with lunch or dinner in the tasting hall «Tractir» (Restaurant) designed to imitate restaurants of the 1800 - 1900 era and enjoy food prepared according to a Cook Book published in 1887.
